Electron Pro – Pursuit vs. Bunch Event Setup
What’s the differences in the setup of a track bike for team pursuits and bunch events? Denmark’s skilled mechanic, Mads Severinsen has taken us through Denmark’s two Argon 18 Electron Pro track bikes; Rasmus Lund’s bike for Team Pursuit and Lasse Norman’s for Omnium and Madison (Bunch Events).
The two bikes look very much a like. But there are some differences between the two:
- Wheels.
- Gearing and
- Handlebars.
“Basically, there are a number of technical regulations from UCI that prescribe exactly how the bikes must be set up for the respective disciplines. But basically, the team pursuit bike is set up to be as aerodynamic as possible. The bike for bunch events has to be very aerodynamic as well, but here the steering characteristics are weighted higher, as riders must be able to navigate in a peloton, and to make the madison shifts at very high speeds. That’s also why many riders chooses to have bar tape mounted all the way till the stem, like Lasse Norman likes it“ Mads Severinsen explains.
